1100 glossa {gloce-sah'}
of uncertain affinity; TDNT - 1:719,123; n f
AV - tongue (50)
1) the tongue, a member of the body, an organ of speech
2) a tongue, i.e. the language used by a particular people in
distinction from that of other nations. To speak with (in) a
tongue is the gift of men, who rapt in ecstasy and no longer
quite masters of their own reason and consciousness, pour forth
their glowing spiritual emotions in strange utterances,
rugged, dark, disconnected, quite unfit to instruct or to
influence the minds of others. The origin of the expression is
apparently to be found in the fact that in Hebrew, the tongue
is spoken of as the leading instrument by which the praises of
God are proclaimed, and that according to the more rigorous
conception of inspiration, nothing human in an inspired man was
thought to be active except the tongue, put in motion by the
Holy Ghost.

AV - fuller (1)
1) a fuller. The trade of the fullers, so far as it is mentioned
in Scripture, appears to have consisted chiefly in cleansing
garments and whitening them. The process of filling or
cleansing clothes consisted in treading or stamping on the
garments with the feet or with bats in tubs of water, in which
some alkaline substance answering the purpose of soap had been
dissolved. The substances used for this purpose which are
mentioned in Scripture are natron, Pr. 25:20; Jer. 2:22, and
soap. Mal. 3:2. Other substances also are mentioned as being
employed in cleansing, which, together with alkali, seem to
identify the Jewish with the Roman process, as urine and
chalk. The process of whitening garments was performed by
rubbing into them chalk or earth of some kind. (Cimolite) was
probably the earth most frequently used. The trade of the
fullers, as causing offensive smells, and also as requiring
space for drying clothes, appears to have been carried on at
Jerusalem outside the city.

AV - Golgotha (3)
1) Meaning "skull", the Hebrew name of the spot at which our
Lord was crucified. Mat. 27:33; Mark 15:22; John 19:17. By
these three evangelists it is interpreted to mean the "place
of a skull." Two explanations of the name are given: (1) that
it was a spot where executions ordinarily took place, and
therefore abounded in skulls; or (2) it may come from the look
or form of the spot itself, bald, round and skull-like, and
therefore a mound or hillock, in accordance with the common
phrase--for which there is no direct authority-- "Mount
Calvary." Whichever of these is the correct explanation,
Golgotha seems to have been a known spot.

Four out of the five were afterwards destroyed by the Lord
with fire from heaven. Gen. 19:23-29. One of them only, Zoar
(or Bela, which was its original name), was spared at the
